Pet hair, every day

• Run a vacuum with a pet-hair brush in high-traffic areas a few times a week
• Use washable throws on favourite furniture
• A damp rubber glove lifts hair from upholstery fast
• Brush pets regularly, outside when the weather allows

Odours

• Wash pet beds and blankets every one to two weeks
• Clean litter boxes daily and wash them fully every few weeks
• Use enzyme cleaners for accidents: they break down the source of the smell
• Open windows when you can and change furnace filters on schedule

Floors and paws

A paw-wipe station by the door saves your floors, especially during Ottawa's muddy spring and salty winter. Keep a towel and a small bin there.

How often should a pet home be cleaned?

Homes with pets usually need cleaning more often. Weekly or every-two-weeks visits keep hair and odours from building up, and recurring plans get a discount based on frequency.
